1. Pick the sticky material, its character will decide the character of finished products. Chemical engineer usually can choose several sticky material, then compare and make a decision.

2. Analyse the function and feature of each ingredient. Once decide the main sticky material, other additives such as filler, curing agent, coupling agent and thinner should be chosen, their each percentage also should be decided. The process of picking the additives is also a process of analysing their function and feature.

3. Design the first step formula. and run a test to check how it is exactly, then try to optimize the formula.

4. Use the products getting from lab in practice, observe and analyse how its performance of adhesion and sealing, confirm the formula is successful or not.

5. If the formula is confirmed successful, it's allowed to apply the formula into match production. According to the reality of match production, chemical engineer should adjust the formula to optimize it if necessary.
